Primary School Principal’s Message

Grade 5 Exhibition

This Thursday was the Grade 5 Exhibition evening. The Grade Five Exhibition is a large, collaborative inquiry which students in all IB schools undertake at the end of the Primary Years Programme. The process ends with an exhibition of learning which occurred this week in the gym. Greg has written more about this in the PYP Coordinator News section. I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the Grade 5 students for a truly fantastic exhibition! Thank you also to all of the teachers who were involved and gave up their time to support the students especially Kenny, Gabby and Greg who did a tremendous job coordinating the whole event!

Managing Transitions Parents’ Seminar

Ed our school counsellor presented this morning to a small group of parents on the topic of transitions. Ed’s advice was summed up as follows:

– Relocation is stressful for everyone! (including your pets)
– Transition involves physical, emotional and psychological adjustments
– Recognise that you may have a period of stress
– Accept and acknowledge the need for time to adjust.

Amy Franklin from the PSA Board attended and wrote:

“Everyone that attended took home some valuable insights to help their families through transitions. Leaving TIS and Tokyo is such a big change for parents and children alike, and the useful information shared today will certainly help families to more smoothly navigate this time of transition.”

Thank you to Ed and the parents for taking time to discuss this important issue. More information about Ed’s seminar can be found later in this edition of TIS Times.
