Primary School Principal’s Message

New Curriculum Guides Coming Soon

As an IB school we follow the IB Standards and Practices. These standards are what all IB schools must adhere to. These standards help to provide the TIS community quality assurance. One of these standards is “C2.2 The written curriculum is available to the school community”. Our written curriculum has always been readily available on the school website but parents and teachers alike were not content with the format.

We have been very busy in recent weeks putting together the new curriculum guides. Our easy to read, flashy-looking curriculum guides will be hosted this summer on the TIS website for everyone to access. In fact the website curriculum section itself will be completely revamped too in time for the new school year. Haruna (our designer) is currently working on the format for the guides which features many photos of your children.

Professional Development

At TIS we are committed to the very best professional development for our teachers and for your children. We have already confirmed that we will be hosting trainers once again from Columbia University New York to train our teachers in the very latest and very best methodologies of teaching literacy. Two trainers will come for five full days to work with our teachers and your children. We also have booked Australia’s leading expert on inquiry learning Kath Murdoch to come to run a weekend workshop for our teachers in March. Kath is a world renowned speaker and author:

TIS Training Teachers Worldwide

Andy McGovern (Grade 4 teacher) has been away this week training teachers at the United World College of South East Asia. Andy is presenting about the use of iPADs for Augmented Reality for Book Reviews. You can read all about this at the reThinking Literacy website and about Andy’s presentation here We are all very proud of Andy. This is part of a growing trend of international schools looking towards TIS for teaching ideas!

Tape Terror

Those of you who read last week’s TIS Times will know that the Parents Support Association had a sneaky plan. If our students sold enough raffle tickets and beat the previous record, they promised to allow the children to duck tape Lorraine and I to the wall of the gym and then to remove the chairs we are standing on.

It is with great fear I write to you to disclose that the children reached their target. Those of you wishing to watch this spectacle can see it during PYP recess on April 29, 10.10 – 10.30 in the playground – gulp!

I wonder if Lorraine’s expression on the day will be as happy as she looks in this photo?!

See you at the Cherry Blossom Fair!
