This past weekend, a group of eight TIS students participated in the second annual ski race championships in Hakuba. While this was our second time heading up to compete, it was our first time as part of the International School Snow Sports Championship organized by Evergreen International Ski School, the first of it’s name. Our competition was a group of eager and talented skiers and snowboarders from the British School of Tokyo.

The eight students representing TIS were: Sofia Shortis, Tom Busby, Emily Busby, Sung Yeon Park, Kotomi Robbins, Kai Dewey, Adrian Tai and Brandon Sato.

While we had a bit of a tricky start due to the lack of snow this year, the weekend was a great success with everybody feeling more confident on their skis and proud of their efforts.

Our results were as follows:

Giant Slalom U12 Girls
1st place: Sofia Shortis

Giant Slalom U12 Boys
2nd place: Tom Busby

Giant Slalom U14 Girls
2nd place: Kotomi Robbins

Giant Slalom U14 Boys
2nd place: Adrian Tai

Slopestyle U14 Boys
1st place: Adrian Tai
2nd place: Kai Dewey

We also began a new tradition with BST in celebrating sportsmanship and camaraderie throughout the event. The winner of this award, the Hakuba Hero, will bring the trophy back to their school to be on display until next season’s championship. The first Hakuba Hero between TIS and BST is Emily Busby.
