Head of School’s Message

Dear Parents

Firstly, huge congratulations must go to the amazing Cherry Blossom Fair Team for their extraordinary work to make the event last Saturday such a raving success. As you will have read in Nami’s letter to the community, all records were surpassed. It was truly a great day, demonstrating the wonderful community spirit here at TIS. Thank you to all the parents and teachers who supported in so many different ways. The middle school students are to be congratulated too for their work in setting up on the Friday and for cleaning up on Saturday after the event, in addition to managing booths during the CBF. Of Course Chris and I paid our dues today when the students had their fun duct taping us to the outside wall of the gym since they beat last year’s record on raffle sales.

Please submit your class placement forms to Maki by Monday 9th May. Details about this have been sent out by email.

Lately with the warmer weather, we sometimes see students in the construction play area with parents, after 17:00. There is an agreement with the neighbours that there will be no children playing outside after 17:00. This was a condition for approval to build here.

Today the Grade 7 students who went to Cambodia over Spring Break, presented to the whole school. One of realisations from their trip was how lucky we all are at TIS and what privileged lives we have, compared to the children at TIS Cambodia. Therefore it is very disheartening to see the amount of lost property every day. Ample clothing just taken for granted. If the item is named, we call students to collect it, but approximately 90% is not named. We do our best at school to teach students to be responsible for their garments, but we need your support at home on this matter please, starting with the naming of all garments! There have been tables in the lobby in the latter part of this week but any items not claimed by Monday, will all be going to a good cause.

After my newsletter last week, apparently some parents are speculating that we are considering school from Monday to Saturday. This is definitely not an option! To clarify, a 6 days schedule looks like this:

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday

Week 1 Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5

Week 2 Day 6 Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4

Week 3 Day 5 Day 6 Day 1 Day 2 Day 3

and so on. As I mentioned last week, many schools have this schedule and whilst it takes two or three weeks for everyone to adjust, people very soon do. The rationale for this change was in last week’s TIS TIMES. More details regarding scheduling will be communicated, once the final decision has been made and more of the finer details have been resolved.

Kind regards
