PSA News

Dear TIS community,

We would like to thank Kristine, Stacey and Seth for the very valuable Summer Learning workshop they presented on Tuesday this week. They had great practical hints and strategies on how to prevent the summer slide in learning, as well as some very useful online resources. For those who couldn’t attend the workshop, the slides from the presentation will be available on manabimon.

Since August 2015, the teachers have prepared and presented more than 20 great workshops full of useful information and practical advice on a diverse range of topics from Cyber-bullying to CPR. We would like to thank them whole-heartedly for their time, dedication and commitment to supporting the TIS parents.

Showing our kids we care about school: How you can help

The PSA Board aims to support the TIS Community by organising events such as the Dirty Dish Tour and the Japanese Supermarket excursion, and fundraisers like the Cherry Blossom Fair and Pizza Fridays. Some of these events are always run by PSA board members but for some of these events to happen, we rely on other parent volunteers to give an hour of their time also.

Something we all appreciate about TIS is its caring and nurturing atmosphere. It’s evident in the behaviour of our kids who give up their lunch times and recess times to volunteer for Kids4Kids or to be a buddy to younger children. They are active members of our community and we would like to ask you also to commit a few hours of your time to support the children and show that we value school and the community we are all a part of.

You could:

  • be a homeroom parent: welcome new families and organise class get-togethers
  • volunteer for pizza/ popcorn/ popsicle Fridays: hand out pizzas to your child’s class at lunchtime once a term
  • be a Yearbook photographer for your child’s class: go along to class events and take some behind the scenes action shots
  • join the Cherry Blossom Fair committee: volunteer to be a sub-committee member to run a food stall, the silent
  • auction, raffle tickets, the book stall, the tombola, games etc

  • be a CBF volunteer: help out for an hour or two on a stall on the day of the fair
  • join the Parent Support Association board: the PSA board is looking for:
    • 2 Yearbook co-ordinators: help put together this wonderful memento for the children
    • 2 CBF chairs: help implement the strategic plan and co-ordinate CBF sub-committees

Or, maybe you would like to add something completely new to the TIS Community?

Just an hour or two over the term can make a big difference.

If you would like to volunteer next year, have any questions, comments or suggestions, we would love to hear from you! Please get in touch:
