Head of School’s Message

Dear Parents

New Arrival

Firstly, Congratulations to Chris Frost, Primary Principal and Kyoka, upon the safe arrival of their first child, a baby boy, Yuuri last Saturday evening. What an exciting Halloween Chris and Kyoka had!! I’ve asked Chris not to worry about writing an article for TIS Times this week and to write to his friends and family instead.

Reminder re: Students references and documentation

As it is that time of year when students and families are preparing to move to other countries or Grade 8 students are applying to other schools, please be reminded that all requests for documentation MUST go through Nana Imamura, our student registrar.

Sports Day

Thank you for the wonderful turnout for Sports Day and weren’t we lucky, once again, with the weather. Once we get Gakkou Hojin status, we will have a much higher priority as a school, when it come to the ballots for venues and dates, so before too long, we hope to be able to host this event on a Saturday, as we used to on the previous site. This will enable many more of you to attend. A big thank you must go to Malgosia and Adriaan for all their hard work organising such an event and thank you to all the teachers and staff who supervised each activity.

Japanese Exchange Students

Yesterday we had sixty grade four students from Shiba Elementary School visiting with our grade fours as part of our Japanese Exchange programme. Our students did an excellent job of taking them on a school tour, in small groups, and explaining in Japanese, all the different aspects of our school. On December 10th the will reciprocate by hosting our grade four students at their school.

Parent Education Sessions

We are almost at the end of our first half of year programme. Yesterday, Greg, Kristine, Josie and Tonya did an excellent job leading a workshop on Literacy for about fifteen parents. After an initial session, the group split into PYP and MYP so the teachers could be more specific regarding the different age groups.

Amy and Bonnie (PSA Board representatives) gave this feedback: “On behalf of the PSA and Parent Ed team, we want to thank each one of you individually for the exceptional workshop given this morning. The content was extremely useful and even motivating as parents walked away chatting about ideas and expressed how insightful the workshop was. We know that these workshops require an incredible amount of time to prepare. As the parent community, we are deeply grateful for your efforts and time to educate us!”

Bonnie and Amy are working with the Leadership Team to provide a relevant and interesting series for the second half of the year and this programme will be published very soon. Thank you as always to Bonnie and Amy for how much work they put into this organization.

Website

Please familiarise yourselves with our updated website www.tokyois.com You will find many new videos, and links there. Please direct your friends to this if they are making inquiries about TIS. We are very proud of our school and this is our public ‘eye to the world’. We have some more photos to add, to illustrate our diversity, after World Culture Day in March and there will be grade level curriculum guides added after the Winter Break. Thank you to Chris for all his work in revitalising this site.
